Bicycle Workshops

Join us on at 7 pm for a one-hour workshop followed by a half-hour bike ride this summer on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays of each month. Topics include Basic Bicycle Maintenance, How to Get Around Town, What's a Derailleur, and more. Depending on the topic and the weather, workshops will be held in Brashear Park or in the Adair County Health Dept. For the post-workshop bike ride, please bring your bike & helmet. Lights will be available for loan or purchase ($10). Your $10 donation per year (optional) supports KA-Motion.

2013 Schedule:

Bicycling with Traffic

There is still time to sign up for Bicycling with Traffic. We'll help you understand how to dress comfortably for the weather, and we'll only bike on streets and parking lots if they are safe and clear. We'll keep outside sessions short if it's cold, but you will more likely be too hot than too cold!

KA-Motion Commotion

In this issue:
1. Bicycling with Traffic class starts Mar 10
2. Bicycle bans threaten Missouri
3. Kirksville receives 2 Safe Routes to School grants
4. FLATS in the news
5. Bicycling and Walking with the Daily Express

Bike to Work Breakfast Station

The Northeast Regional Medical Center, a designated Trauma III center, is sponsoring a Bike to Work breakfast station on Thursday, May 24 from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m.

Two Mile Challenge Wrap Up

I had a great time doing the Two Mile Challenge this year. My favorite part is the community that develops on the forum, and then getting to meet everyone again at the party at Pickler's Famous, a treat made possible by Dr. Kevin Marberry.

Traffic Skills 101

We’re offering Traffic Skills 101 on Sunday, Sept 25, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm (registration required). Traffic Skills 101 will give you the confidence to bike safely on any road.

Take the Two Mile Challenge in October!

Registration is now open for the Two Mile Challenge! Half of all trips made by car are less than two miles. The Two Mile Challenge is to leave the car at home for some, most, or even all of these short trips during the month of October. Improve your fitness, save money on gas, and reduce your environmental impact at the same time!

Sunset Bike Ride & Walk

Similar to April's Moonlight Ride, the Sunset Ride & Walk will be Sept 17, 2011. If you missed the Moonlight Ride, this is a family-friendly ride or walk to benefit the Forest Lake Area Trail System. The registration form is here. Check out the new pricing!

Walk with Walgreens

I was excited to see in Walgreens tonight a sign proclaiming their new program, Walk with Walgreens. This is right in line with our agenda, to promote active transportation. You can sign up at Walk with Walgreens, and receive discounts and a chance to win a $100 Walgreens gift certificate as you log your steps.
