Bike & Walk Commuters' Day Report

About 100 people visited one of three breakfast stations on Friday at Brashear Park, Courthouse Lawn, and Baptist Student Union. Most of the visitors to Brashear Park were students on their way to school. Science teacher Mrs. Keck offered extra credit for students who visited the breakfast station. Hundreds of students and parents driving past on Cottage Grove stared hungrily out the car and bus windows!

All week we kept an anxious eye on the weather forecasts. First storms were predicted, then the storms were supposed to be over by Saturday morning, then Friday night. With a predicted high of not quite 60F, it could be a chilly ride. But the sun shone and it was really very nice for the ride and walk!

Bike Rodeo

About 20 kids came out for Bike Rodeo this morning, and several parents and grandparents rode their bikes too. Truman students from the Health and Exercise Science Department organized the event, with support from Assistant City Manager Melanie Smith. Members of the Kirksville Bike Co-op adjusted helmet straps and checked bicycles for safety. Kids practiced riding a straight line through a figure-8 course with a "stop sign" in the middle. They practiced their turn signals and stop signals. They swerved between cones and practiced riding in a straight line to complete the obstacle course.
