KA-Motion Commotion

1. Contact your senators TODAY to save bike/ped funding
2. Results of Sept bike/ped traffic counts

1. The amendment to save bike/ped funding on the House version of the transportation bill failed but there is still a chance to save the Senate version. The vote on that amendment is scheduled Monday so contact Senators Blunt and McCaskill today to save bike/ped funding! Even better is a phone call: Sen Blunt, (573) 442-8151 and Sen McCaskill, (573) 442-7130. Remember, this will shape the next decade or so for bicycling and walking in Missouri. The last 5-yr transportation bill has been extended each year for about the past 5 years, so a 5-yr bill can last much longer than intended.

2. The weather was perfect for the September 13 bike/ped traffic counts. KA-Motion volunteers once again helped Assistant City Manager Melanie Smith collect the data.
Jefferson and Halliburton: 11 bicyclists, 11 pedestrians
Walking trail near the YMCA: 2 bicyclists, 8 pedestrians
Big Loop of Thousand Hills: 3 bicyclists, 8 pedestrians (0 of each on Hwy 157)
Franklin at Patterson: 41 bicyclists, 117 pedestrians
LaHarpe and Boundary: 5 bicyclists, 13 pedestrians

Future bike/ped counts will be held in May and September in accordance with the recommendations of the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project. Volunteers who helped in July will remember how miserably hot that was so we decided not to count in July or in January!
